Who Derby should sign in Rowett’s First Transfer Window?
After a disappointing season finishing outside of the Top 6 its time to look ahead to summer, and how Rowett could strengthen the squad. With Mel Morris claiming to let Rowett will have a “free hand” to improve the squad over the summer expect to see a few deals done over the next few months. Here are 5 signings that could strengthen Derby’s squad:
1 – Alex Soares (Maritmo)
Derby, along with Italian side Genoa have reportedly expressed interest in Maritmo’s 26 year old central midfielder Alex Soares. Soares is currently struggling to get game time this season with 8 of his 20 appearances coming off the bench. Described as a good dribbler and dynamic in his play the Portugese contract expires at the end of the season, meaning no expensive buy out clause. Could he be the answer to Derby’s midfield problem?
2 – Jota (Brentford)
Brentford’s 25-year-old Spanish winger Jota could be a great addition to Rowetts squad. The attacking midfielder has 10 goals in 17 games for Brentford this season, with the 2nd best goals per minute ratio in the Championship this season. The Spaniard could play either as a attacking midfielder or as a left winger, with goals surely coming from either position he is played in.
3 – Bakary Sako (Crystal Palace)
Malian international and out of favour Crystal Palace winger Bakary Sako could be a great addition to Derby’s squad. Sako is evidently not in Allardyce’s plan at Palace, having only played 112 minutes off the bench so far this season. Despite his current lack of game time Sako is a proven championship player, scoring 15 goals for Wolves in their 2014-2015 campaign. However, it is likely that Derby would have to spend big to persuade Palace to part ways with him.
4 – Ryan Fredericks (Fulham)
24 year old Ryan Fredericks has proven himself to be a solid right back for Fulham this season, making 28 appearances in their push for promotion. He could make a great addition to the squad potentially replacing an ageing Chris Baird in the right back role. Although if Fulham do manage to go all the way in the play-offs it might be unlikely that he would want to remain in the championship.
5 – Aden Flint (Bristol City)
At times Derby’s defence has been solid this season, and at other times it has been woeful, a roller coaster of defensive performances has led many fans wanting a new centre back to replace Keogh/Pearce. Aden Flint has had an impressive season for Bristol City, whilst only getting 8 clean sheets he has 5 goals to his name, a goal scoring record any centre back would be proud of. Could Flint be the answer to Derby’s defensive problems?
